Weekly update

Ok, here I am, obligated to post at least a post each week.

We submitted our subject selection forms last Thursday and guess what? I decided on Geography in the end. Not that the last wonderful time with Geog hasn't affected me, it is simply even worse for History, or so I was told.

Oh yeah, the last English lesson was really interesting.

Mr Vardy picked four students out to the front. Surprise surprise, I was one of them too.

He first asked Kyle to stand in front of the class and talk about what he had done on the previous weekend. He told Kyle to remove his hands from his pockets.
The next one was Nick and guess what? He deliberately kept his hands out of his pocket. I really didn't notice that until Mr Vardy pointed it out to us.

The next one is Maria. Mr Vardy only gestured his hand in indication that it was her turn and she stepped out to the front and spoke without prompting. I guess Mr Vardy spared me and I didn't really have to do anything embarrassing in front he whole class.

In the end, it only summed up to one conclusion:
We are affected and influenced by the things that we see, hear and feel. And so are media authors. They write things in their perspectives which are shaped by their own life experiences.

Wonderful and memorable lesson to have been through. ^.^

I'm back again!
Updates:

I'm on the debating team for State High! I would never have thought that that was ever going to happen. But it did. The first round for the season is on Friday the week after. I'm really pretty nervous for this debate since I'm going to speak in front of so many people, not to say the judges.

I'm currently writing a drama script for English and it looks really easy at first but believe me, it is really hard to get the characters right and the plot interesting. I remember a time when I wanted to be a film director or a scriptwriter so that I can make dramas I wanna watch. :)

Math's a bummer. I really have to pull myself together to get back to the top. :(

Sorry for neglecting this blog for ages. Life has been hectic as usual.

We are having our holidays on 12 Dec and all the way until 29 Jan. One month later than Singapore's. Exams have just ended and we are having a programme called alternative programme. i think it's pretty useless anyway. yesterday was really boring. First, we watched a musical performance by the school band. Then later in the afternoon, we had another performance by the Year Nines. It was a really long one and half of the time I was daydreaming.

Next week is a whole week of the programme. I think I'm gonna be bored to death. By the way, we are collecting our reports cards on Wednesday. Grhh, can't wait to know my results.

Last time for the Year 12 Graduation ceremony, they announced the ultimate prize winner. Monica. She's just amazing, she's like the captain for debating, softball, basketball, science, maths and basically just...everything. She has won like a hundred national competitions. Doesn't she need any time to sleep? Guess that she's going to the best university because genuises like her really deserve it. I really envious her. :)

Gosh, I managed to survive the first week of Term 4 pretty well. Not much happened this week. Except that the Maths, English and Media assignments are due. It's really been a busy week.

One funny thing.

We were having Japanese lesson we were supposed to make comments on our various subjects. Mama in Japanese means so-so in English.

When Mrs Abercrombie called on someone and asked him what he thought of Art or something, guess what he answered.

"Bijutsu wa so-so desu,"

Everybody was laughing so hard until their tears were coming out.

Just a quick update. I spent the whole afternoon at the State Library with Angela. I brought my laptop along in the pessimistic thought of not being able to use the wireless internet service. Ha, but it totally worked! So, gone was the plan of practising for the Japanese speaking test.

Anyway, the State Library is really nice, with all the modern features and all that.

Here's a quick update. I just started on the feature article that Mrs Syngle assigned. I had some trouble coming up with a good heading that is really appealing and smart. I have no idea how the newspaper editors come up with such humorous headings. Anyway, I hope I'll get more inspirations on that. I'm gathering a list of so-called "cool" gadgets to own. What do you think is a "must-have" and what do you want the most? I have too many things that I want. First, the iPod and the iPhone. And then the Mac. I also want the Toshiba laptop!! *laughing greedily*

I've been especially lazy these few days. Thus, I've been like totally reluctant to post this. Anyway, some updates.

1) Mr Richardson returned my essay to me and said that it isn't sticking to the topic. :( How dare he say that. No teacher has ever said that to me. :( Hate him.

2) We are currently doing a radio advertisement and poster to advertise ourselves in a way that we want others to see us. That is, to promote ourselves as the way we want us to turn out to be like. I have no idea what my ultimate goal or dream is. So, I just said that I want to be a famous interior designer. It is not wrong, but not yet totally true either; since I have wanting to be like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. At this stage, I guess everything is interesting to me. Once, I aspired to be a CSI. Can you believe it? I mean, just because I was totally into the TV crime series and that changed my aspirations. Luckily, I was able to realise how real CSIs must face disgusting things like bodies and arms and legs. And that ended my dream of being a righteous crime scene inverstigator.

3) Our next assignment for English is to write a feature article on how technology is good/bad for teens. I plan to argue that technology is definitely more useful than harmful to teens since I'm like, totally addicted to it.

I just got back my English and Japanese test results. Guess what? I got A for both subjects! :)

Mrs Syngle, my English teacher, wanted to read my story to the class. But I was like, so reluctant, though I knew that it was useless. Boy, was I wrong! She said it was ok and didn't read it in the end. So I guess this is what they call democracy. :)

Ha ha, I have to clear the misunderstandings that I'm rushing my blog posts. No, I'm not. I'm just feeling happy because I finally finished the short story! :) This may sound impressive, but once you know that this piece of assignment was assigned FOUR weeks ago, it is not so impressive. That's why I feel sooo happy and relieved that I finally got it over.

Just got back my Maths paper. Got 2 questions wrong. :( Hate that.

Still 2 weeks to go until holidays!! I can hardly wait.

My mood is getting better everyday because exams and assignments are gradually over.

By the way, I just love Google Chrome. It's so fast and simple. You just have to try it. :)

I finally finished the Japanese reading and writing tests today! To my surprise, I found it pretty easy as the tested content were all what we have learnt. I'm, like, so over the moon now! :)

Unfortunately, Mrs Abercrombie said that if we want to take Japanese in Year 10, we've got to choose the optional unit for Japanese 2nd semester next year, and that means, I've got to give up business!! :( It's giving me a headache. I took a look at Isabella's Geography textboook during lunch today and got a shock. The Geography here is even harder than Singapore's! Believe me, I nearly fell off from the chair. I don't even recognise half of the terms in the textbook. As a result of this, I've decided to choose History for next year's humanities.

Oh yeah, we had Media again today.

Mrs Dorge was calling out names of those who had submitted the assignment, but I was like, dreaming and not paying attention and thought she was calling the role. So, stupidly, I answered with a loud "here!" when she called on me. Everybody was like, what the hell is she saying? I soon realised my mistake and quickly shrank as much as I could.

Gosh, that was embarrassing.

Another (Lovely) weekend

I nearly died today in the Japanese Listening test today. I mean, with all the unfamiliar and weird country and city names, I doubt I'll get an A on this. Another writing and reading test is on next Tuesday. Gosh, I just remembered that I still own Mr Wilson 2 game logos and CAD drawings. Not to say the feature article for Media.

Speaking of Media.

We had Media lesson today. We had to stand up and explain what our drawing showed. Not to say to answer Mrs Dorge's questions.

"This drawing shows a emo gangster," somebody said.
"How can a gangster be emo. They are the opposites," Mrs Dorge reminded kindly.

Whatever.

But the worst thing was still to come. As I was sitting in the last few rows, Mrs Dorge sort of missed me and skipped to Tim. She didn't realise that she missed me until Georgia reminded her. But by then, it was over and everyone was ready to leave but they were forced to sit down again.

To listen to me. Yeah, like that's great.

I explained as quickly as I could to get that over. Thank God it was the end of the lesson so Mrs Dorge had no time to ask me questions. If not, I would definitely not survive it, no matter what.

Beijing Olympics Rules!

Sorry for not updating for the past few days. I’ve been quite busy. Watching the Olympics Games. Sports have never looked so exciting to me. First, I have to start from the opening ceremony of the Olympics. It was really spectacular. In my opinion, it truly showed the spirit and culture of China with modern technology blended in perfectly. It is interesting that so far, Asia has occupied more than half of the gold medals, with China topping the charts.

Miracle

Miss Zheng is wrong! After taking a couple of Panadol pills yesterday, I miraculously recovered from the evil cold and I'm feeling much better now. Even my sore throat is almost gone. :)

By the way, just got the good news that Google Maps Street View is coming to Australia. And I went up and checked. Guess what? I saw my own house in Street View on the site!! I was like so surprised that technology is progressing so fast. I think you will be able to view anywhere on Earth with Google Earth soon. :)

This morning, I decided to take out the jumper I've been wearing because it's been getting kind of warm lately. My mom told me that I'll catch a cold but I still went ahead anyway. Guess what? It turned out that she's right. Coz now I'm sitting here, drinking a cup of hot water and swallowing a capsule of Panadol. I've totally caught a cold. I was still okay when I came back from school. However, my head started to ache badly some time later and my sore throat came back. I remembered that Miss Zheng said at the level camp that she hates sore throat the most. It's more like a packaged service because what comes after is cold then eventually fever. So, according to her theory, I'm gonna wait unti the inevitable fever comes.

I hate IE

Just opened my blog using Internet explorer and got a shock. The words are all scrambled up and the HTML code, which is supposed to be hidden, is everywhere. So, if you are reading this using IE, short for Internet Explorer, you would probably have noticed it.

Ok, so I've officially given up on IE now. Ever since I started using Mozilla Firefox, things got much better and it got even better when I tried out Safari. However, considering that I'm using Windows Live Mail and it can only be opened in IE or Firefox, I guess I'll stick to Mozilla Firefox until the people at Apple solve the problem with Hotmail.

If you are reading this now AND still using Internet Explorer, I really recommend you to switch before you vomit blood.

K-drama Fever

I've just finished watching Surgeon Bong Dal Hee 外科医生奉达熙. It's so incredibly great that once I started watching it, I got hooked up immediately. It's a must watch for those who love Korean dramas. I always hated those kind draggy and long-winded dramas. At first I thought this is quite the same. However, I was completely proved wrong as the story began to unfold. It's really professional since many of the medical terms used are flawless and accurate. It doesn't completely focus on romance, which is what I like. Most of it focuses on chasing your dream and reaching for the stars. It's warm and lighted-hearted and it'll definitely make you laugh, make you cry and feel what the characters are feeling.

Here are some characters in the drama serial.

Bong Dal He (Played by Lee Yo Won)
Heart Surgeon - 1st Year Intern.

Her health hasnt been good since young and so she is determine to become a doctor. As difficult as it was, she managed to become an intern. However, 3 months into the internship, her heart problems suffered a relapse and she underwent another major heart operation. Because of that, she was kicked out of the internship.
She wanted to take up the internship again but her mother was against the idea and she only did medical checkups in her hometown, helping her mum in the fields in her free time. She managed to get into Seoul hospital with the “just a try” attitude, and got in via the last place of the intake. Finally, she managed to take the first step into being an intern at Seoul University. [P.S Seoul Uni is one of the most prestigious university in seoul.] She is naive, simple, righteous and have a passion for her work. She only knows how to persevere and persevere, work harder and harder. Slightly on the “not using the brain” side.

Dr Ahn Joong Geun (Played by Lee Bum Soo)
Cardiac specialist, specializing in illness of the cardiac, respiratory and digestive systems.

An extremely talented surgeon, despite being specializing in cardiac diseases, he is an all rounder. Supervisor for the Cardiactric department. He feels that it is a sin for a surgeon to make any forms of mistakes; a perfectionist in terms of being a surgeon. He is very strict towards the year 1 interns and therefore he is always angry with Dal Hee who makes mistakes all the time. He grew up in an ophanage and was adopted, however in the end he was abandoned again. During his intern years, he often compete with Lee Gun Wook and now they happened to work in the same hospital again. As Dr Ahn was an ophan, he dislikes Lee Gun Wook for the fact Lee Gun Wook “abandoned” his child (read Lee Gun Wook’s profile). Therefore, Dal Hee who was close to Lee Gun Wook was also disliked by him. However, as time goes by, Dal Hee began grabbing more of his attention…

Dr. Lee Gun Wook (Played by Kim Min Joon)
A surgeon specialist.Specializing in the disease of the liver, gut.

He is able to use both his left hand and right hand. He is a friendly and compassionate surgeon, and with his good looks, alot of girls are mesmerized by him. He grew up in a well-do family and he is the nephew of the well respected Professor Lee in the hospital. He is confident and he has a strong sense of pride. A year ago, he divorced his wife upon discovering the fact that their son wasnt his son afterall. Doesn’t get along very well with Dr Ahn. The fact that Dalhee was the first to accidentally discover the secret regarding his son, he became very close to Dalhee.

Dr. Jo Moon Kyung (Played By Oh Yoon Ah)
A Paeditrician

She is Lee Gun Wook’s ex wife.Divorced from Lee Gun Wook a year ago. She kept avoiding the fact that her son wasn’t Lee Gun Wook’s son after all and upon being discovered, she didn’t put up much of a fight when Lee Gun Wook wanted a divorce. She is smart, passionate and has a strong sense of pride.
Her character is totally similar to Lee Gun Wook. Things changed when her son got ill and she became dependent on Lee Gun Wook for comfort and Lee Gun Wook in return was not as cold as before. She slowly realized that she was still in love with Lee Gun Wook

Ok, so I'm a total Dr Ahn-Dal Hee supporter especially Dr Ahn was being so sweet and caring towards Dal Hee in the last few parts of the story. I used to support Dr Lee when soon changed my position when I saw that he was being so indecisive and hurting everyone.

Something Different...

I guess the biggest difference between schools in Singapore and Australia is that we don't stick to a fixed class all the time and attend lessons together. Everyone has their own timetable based on the subjects that they choose. And after each lesson ends, we have to go in our separate ways as we all have different lessons afterwards.

Form class starts at 9.15 and ends at 9.25. Basically, we only take attendance and listen to morning announcements in it.After it is period 1, which is also the official start of lessons. Sometimes, you have to cross the bridge to reach the other side of the school campus to attend the next period. So, in order to make it for the lesson, you really have to run fast. It's really some kind of exercise, huh? :)

We have a total of 4 periods everyday, with the last period ending at 3.20pm. And each period lasts for 1h 10min. Much longer than Singapore's 30min.

Beside that, there is really not much difference, at least as far as I know.

BTW, I just found Princess Diaries, the ninth book. I got a shock when I read that Michael and Mia have broken up and Mia started to date J.P.! I don't think I want to read the next one anymore. :(

Just completed the homework for Graphics in which we are supposed to design a box and marketing strategies for a computer game. So, I thought might as well update my blog before doing other homework.

About school life in Australia.

First, I’ve to clear up some misconceptions that many people have. No. 1 In Australia, we do have to wear uniform for all primary and high schools, private and state schools. No. 2 we do have textbooks and quite a lot of homework and projects and also common tests. Just like most other countries. Do not be misled by the American novels about how school life is carefree and wonderful and think that applies to all Western countries. As far as I know, Australia isn’t the same.

However, there are still many good things about Australian schools. For the school I’m in, you can choose the subjects and courses you want to take and subjects like History and Geography aren’t compulsory. Also, school starts from nine in the morning (so that you don’t have to wake up so early in the morning and skip breakfast just to avoid being late) and ends at three in the afternoon.

I’m sure you got the basic ideas how school life is. More updates coming.

Sorry for the short post that day, I was rushing. I suppose that I’ll give a full account of what life is like here. :)

Firstly, the weather: It’s pretty cold down here, sometimes reaching 9 degree Celsius, which is much colder than Singapore. It’s especially cold at night, so I need to cover myself up with many thick blankets, one on top of another.
Appearance: it’s basically what you would expect in a Caucasian city. Penthouses, bungalows, townhouses. It’s not like typical Asian cities where you have those sky-high buildings and apartments. Instead, you can see those serene streets which hardly have people walking on them.

Lifestyle: After reading the description above, I’m sure you have a basic idea of what my lifestyle is like and is going to be like. We usually wake up at seven in the morning. I’m sleeping at 8pm each night which is pretty ridiculous but not so if you know that the Sun sets at latest 5pm, earliest 4pm here in Brisbane.

I hope that settles your curiosity, if not, check for updates next time where I’ll post up the photos I’ve taken here. :D

I can't believe it. Two days before I leave Singapore. The LAST two days.

I don't know what to feel. Excited? Sad? Happy?

I have no idea.

I just followed my dad to the post office to post a few boxes of clothes and books. They will arrive in Australia within the next 2 months. Hopefully I can get them back in a good shape. If not, I will KILL Singapore Post. :DD

I've decided that this blog will be the witness to all the moving that we are going to do. Whether it's going to Australia or coming back to Singapore. My parents are busy packing up everything now since we are leaving soon.
